CHRISTMAS PARTY SCOTCH CORNER HOTEL

RUTH BELL & STEVEN CLAY

SATURDAY DECEMBER 16TH

The annual Christmas party was held at the Scotch Corner Hotel this year and was organised by Ruth and Steven after they had received an invite from the hotel after our previous visit. The event was an Abba tribute show, Abbas Angel Eyes, which was surprisingly good. We were placed a lot nearer the dance floor this time which some were happy about. All couples received a goody bag and Alison and Andy Shaw handed out cut out faces, moustaches and hats for people to wear after the meal. Some of these can be viewed in our photo gallery.

Before the festivities, however, we had an excellent three course meal. The food was hot and plentiful and served quite efficiently with the Maître d keeping the waiting staff organised.

After the meal the tribute band gave an excellent performance and was followed by a disco.

It turned into a very late night for some of us but was thoroughly enjoyed.

On a rather serious note, the turnout was very disappointing with only ten couples showing an interest, two couples cancelling and one couple unfortunately ill. This left just fourteen of us where there has traditionally been around thirty. It was very disappointing for Ruth and Steven after doing all the hard work and thanks must go to them for organising it. I can’t see them bothering in the future.

BREAKFAST SOCIAL CROOKED BILLET

TIM & SHIRLEY PICKETT

SUNDAY JANUARY 21ST

The Yorkshire Ridings kicked off their 2024 season on the 21st of January with a breakfast social organised by Shirley and Tim Pickett at the ever-popular venue of the Crooked Billet in Saxton.

The promise of excellent quality food unlimited tea/coffee and all at great value, (a big selling point to any true yorkshireman/woman, attracted the attendance of 18 members, including newbies Paul and Bryony Stokes and Jonathan Rhodes. We were also joined by another newbie, Neil, who just came along to meet us and didn’t partake of breakfast.

It was also good to have a catch up with long standing members Jean and Ray who were able to join us after a long absence.

Also popping in for a chat was heavily pregnant landlady, Laura, who promised us a new waitress for our next visit as her baby daughter is to arrive within days!

As with all our club socials, whilst enjoying a tasty breakfast, we lived up to our motto, filling the room with laughter and chat.

The meeting was concluded as always with our usual “everyone’s a winner raffle”, ably run by Shirley and Barbara.

Many thanks to Shirley and Tim for organising and we hope that Tim, who was unable to join us due to feeling under the weather, is soon feeling a little better.
